May 23, 1929 - April 21, 2021

Barbara Florean Boetius of Baldwin, NY passed away at 91 on April 21, 2021. She was born on May 23, 1929 in Five Towns, Long Island to John and Mozelle (Hubert) Coleman and was the older of 2 daughters. She was predeceased by her sister, Bernice Vanenburg in March 2019. During Barbara’s high school years, her parents moved the family to Jamaica, NY where she attended and graduated from Jamaica High School. After clerical studies, she went on to a career in office work in retail stores and other companies including the department store, Franklin Simon & Co. in Manhattan.

Through Bernice’s husband, Frank Vanenburg, Barbara met Ewald Boetius of Suriname (South America). They were married on August 6, 1960 until he predeceased her in 1992. She is survived by her daughters, Louisa Boetius of Baldwin, NY, Deirdre Johnson of Taneytown, MD and Helene Boetius of Baldwin, NY; grandchildren, Taina Smith (Xavier), Shana Haskins (Gerald) and Dillon Latimer as well as her great grandchildren Tahlia, Keithy, Sayon, Nyla, Nia, Dakota, Nema, Xamier and cousins, nieces and nephews. Barbara was predeceased by her grandson Keith Latimer in 2019.

Barbara will be remembered for her nurturing to not only her children but to her grandchildren and great grandchildren who cherished and embraced her presence while she thoroughly enjoyed their company. She was also like a mother to the spouses of her children and grandchildren. She was a very attentive, selfless and loving woman who did things for her family effortlessly. Barbara was a very independent woman, even at 91 years old, she traveled with her family every chance she got and loved shopping. Her family loved her and showed her how much she was appreciated. It was a pleasure to have her as the matriarch of this family that could not have been more blessed to have her in their lives. Her smile was captivating and her personality matched it as she loved to laugh and was always making her family laugh as well. Barbara also carried herself in a very classy way, she took pride in her appearance and it showed. She is the best Mother, grandmother and great grandmother her family could have asked for and WE thank God for her every day.

My deepest condolences to you all! Nana was an awesome woman and lived a great life! Although we lost an amazing person on earth, heaven gained a wonderful angel and she is now watching over and protecting y’all. Nana had an awesome life! Imagine living a life and being able to watch your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up is truly a blessing, most will never experience, but Nana did! Although she is no longer here physically, she still here and now your guardian angel! So let’s not grieve her death, celebrate her life and the memories and impact she had on your lives... What a great life Nana had, one could only wish to be so lucky and blessed! Prayers for your healing and I love you all????????????????????????

My Nana was the most amazing grandmother one could only wish for I have been so blessed to have you in my life. You have been there for me since day one and for all my children. You have always been a giver and continued to do so. You have ALWAYS been a intricate part of my life. You were always there, you would visit me frequently and spend multiple nightS, you would come on vacation with us and part take in all events we were just at bush gardens sitting in the hot sun laughing together. You were the best Nana and I am so very happy you were so independent and able to enjoy life with us for so long. God blessed me when he created you and I am so sure he is blessed to have you with him now. I have been sad for months and I am still very sad but one thing I know is you know how much you were loved and the love we gave you helped you to stay so strong, active, independent, and healthy. I am still amazed at how active you were at 91. The way you took care of yourself was phenomenal and I for sure want to be just like you. Thank you so much Nana for staying with us as long as you could love your first grandchild Taina

My condolences to the family. Although I never knew Mrs. Boetius, I know her beloved granddaughter, Taina. They say the apple never falls too far from the tree, so seeing evidence of her fruit tells me she was a strong and courageous woman. May the presence of the Lord provide comfort to the family at this time.

To the immediate and extended family and friends.. My heart and prayers are with you all during this time. I offer my sincere condolences on the home going on such a beloved person. Nana was the best. I’m so sad writing this, I , like many of you never thought this day would come. She was so beautiful, not just on the outside but in the inside as well, she was kind and sweet hearted always smiling or laughing, just being herself. She had such a huge impact on everyone who’s ever encountered her or had the privilege to be in her presence. It was an honor to be her grandson in law. Although i never felt like I was an “in-law” since day one , She made me feel as if i was her very own son! It was my absolute pleasure to serve her. Im gonna really really miss her. When I’m sad about her the things that put a smile back on my face is the legacy that she has left behind. If you know the family we don’t have to look to far to see bits and pieces of Nana sprinkled throughout throughout. We can all find some of “Nana” in Wesa, DeeDee, NeeNee, Taina, Shana, Dillon, and all of her great grands! Somewhere up there I want you all to know without a doubt that Nana will always be looking out the window of heaven, Just like she did here on earth. Love you Nana ????. My condolences to the Boetius family. ????????
